Why We Love Olde English Bulldogs

My interest in the Olde English Bulldog began when we purchased Daisy from a small breeder in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. Daisy was a sweetheart from the beginning and we fell in love with her at first sight. Having her sparked an interest in the breed and prompted me to do some research. What I found was fascinating and only spurred on my interest in these magnificent animals to new highs. These are Loyal dogs with wonderful temperaments that are great with Children and protective of their homes. On top of that they have an irresistible smile!

The History of the English Bulldog could fill a book in and of itself. (Check out the History Link for a good overview). What the Bulldog breed eventually evolved to is shameful, the current “AKC” bulldog being prone to many ailments and huge vet bills for unsuspecting owners of the modern bulldog.

It was refreshing to see that there were concerned breeders and organizations that recognized this and were attempting to bring back the original breed. As luck would have it there were many lines of Bulldogs in rural areas that captured and maintained many of the original traits and characteristics of the Bulldog of yore. More importantly, Organizations outside of the AKC such as the IOEBA and the CKC began registry programs and outlined the traits that are desirable in these breeds.

If you have decided on a Bulldog or an Olde English Bulldogge as a family bet you have made a great decision. Kind, gentle great with kids yet protective of the house and it’smembers the bulldog is a great choice.
